THE UP BEAT MOVIE!!!

I'm thrilled about Brandon Smith's Utah Ska documentary, "The Upbeat" because it has so much do with my favorite music and even a little bit of my own personal history. It's centered around Utah's upcoming The Upstarts and the history of the Utah ska scene. It features interviews from The Slackers, Toots Hibbert, Bucket from the Toasters and Buster Bloodvesssel. Also, Utah ska legends, Swim Herschel Swim and Stretch Armstrong to name just a few...oh and then...GOGO13? I laugh. Many of the photos contributed are taken from my old pals; ska promoter, Racquel and her ex-Boyfriend Dustin "Skip" Blad of the early GOGO13 incarnation. I find it hilarious to see pictures of my younger brother in our teenage bedroom in the same documentary with likes of Toots and old fatty himself! HAHAHA! Tyler also had some involvement and is accredited with associate producer status! Way to go everybody!

Azure Ray- New Resolution

In this video, a scooter gang gives a ride to a couple on their way to the Lillith Fair while they lip sync a song that's reminds me a lot of "All Tomorrows Parties" by The Velvet Underground. Very Odd indeed. Someone's got to know where this scooter club is from!

The Untouchables in Repo Man

I think this is when I first thought Rude Boys were so awesome.
We used to watch the taped-off TV version of Repo Man as kids. We idolized punk rock, but these scooter guys(The Untouchables) were the only thing I thought was cooler than the punkers in this movie. They were all 60's sharp and yet tall and intimidating when they walked into this shot. You knew that Otto was toast.
Well, whatever you might think of the Untouchables today, they were very important to the American mod/ska scene. Yes there is a big 80's cheese factor, but The Untouchables were seminal. I kinda thought that it was like Jerry Dammers passing the torch when I found out that he produced I SPY(FOR THE FBI). I understand the Untouchables were also California's first scooter club. Much respect, live and let dance.

(insert rad reverby surf guitar)

"How was rehearsal, son?" -------- "Okay. Who's this?"

"This is Mr. Otto, deary. From the finance company. He told me he isn't going to take the car this time, even though he could."

"Well...gotta get going."

(from inside) "...I'm tired of giving you money, and you squandering it. You all went out dancing somewhere!" (Otto revs her car and we find it's up on jacks)

"Hey, everything's cool! I like music too, man!" (Biff! Bang! Pow!!)

New Limited Vespas

I usually despise new scooters. I loved the Stella by Genuine Scooters but they aren't legal in California, so whoop-de-doo. But Vespa announced these 3 limited models for their 60th anniversary and I think I like the design. Oh well, I think these are only available in Italy, so I guess I'm out again.
